Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
SEO is an activity of optimizing webpages or websites in order to make them search engine friendly, thus getting higher ranking in search results.
Crawling , Caching and Indexing
Crawling : A discovery process in which search engine send spiders to find out new or updated content.it could be a a webpage ,image , video ,PDF etc.
Indexing : Indexing is a result of successful crawling. Indexing is where search engine has crawled the web pages and stores them in the database.
Caching : Caching is where copies of webpages stored locally on an internet users hard drive or within search engines database.
History
It is believed that SEO was born in 1990s. At this period worlds first website was launched and there was a huge need for accessibility, and worlds first search was created. Tim Berners-Lee launched the first website in 1991. Shortly competitors like yahoo(1994) and google(1997) entered .From then to now hundreds of algorithm changes have been made and SEO has rapidly evolved.
Google was began as a research project of PhD students. Then later it became as a company in 1998. Google proved to be better than yahoo which was most popular search engine during that time. The users will get search results within 24hour only if they are logged in with email.
The attacks of September 11,2001 changed the leading search engine. Peoples used google to seek information about the damage caused by the attacks. But google had no mechanism to turn attention to news sources. So the unavailability of relevant news sources affect the company. Later the officials held a meeting. After meeting they found that their crawling and indexing processes paid no attention to news.
Before 25years websites are very animated. That’s why they are not crawlable to google. With the help of web masters, they made this possible. (Webmasters are the persons who brings changes inside websites). For this, the authority published a document which contain the details regarding the on-page optimization of websites. Later most of the webmasters start practicing. And this resulted an increase in business enquiries and trust of peoples towards google. But some of them practiced this document over. This resulted low quality search results.
Evolution
Tim Berners-Lee launched the first website in 1991. Shortly competitors like yahoo(1994) and google(1997) entered .In this stage of SEO, marketers leverage keyword stuffing to generate high ranking in search. As a result, they made changes in their working algorithm.
1)Content Specific :- Content specific or mitch specific means ranking a
website using a specific keyword. It depends upon the number of keywords used
there. This leads to keyword stuffing. Web
masters starts adding specific keywords more, this is actually a black hat seo
technique. This unethical practice again affects the trust and quality of
google results.
2)link specific :-when keyword stuffing get increased
googles officials made it as a link specific one. A website can be called as
link specific, when its link is available on other websites.
3)Quality Link Specific :-If google itself shows the
quality of a website ,it is called page ranking. Which website gets page rank
will rank well in search results.
· 2000-Addwords
introduced :- AdWords is a advertisement program. It is also known as PCP program(paper clickable program).
· 2003-Addsense
introduced :- Add sense is a publishers revenue earning program . Google took charge of developing more level results for high ranking.
· 2008
google became more personalized :- This period brought many updates that personalized bad linking practices and keyword stuffing to improve indexing. In a continue effort to improve this search engines offered a personalized search based history.
· 2009 In this period, websites
which have high user interactions rank higher in search results. Users began optimizing new content media for search. This period focused on user usability.
· 2010- A massive change occurred. Google introduced social media signals. This improved the SEO results. Content that was shared throughout the web and social media created a massive change.
